How do different materials affect light and sound? Curriculum for Excellence - draft outcomes CfE (Life and Cells - Using my senses) (Level Second) - SCN 229S - I have researched the structure and function of the eyes and ears, and have taken part in activities to discover the limitations of my senses.
CfE (Communications - Sound) (Level Third) - SCN 231W - I can use my understanding of how to change the pitch of a sound to design and construct a simple musical instrument. Using my instrument I can demonstrate that sounds are produced by vibrations.
CfE (Life and Cells - Using my senses) (Level Third) - SCN 321S - Using my knowledge and understanding of the senses, I can show how modern technology can be used to replace or enhance the senses and so improve the quality of life for individuals.
CfE (Communications - Systems) (Level Third) - SCN 322T - Based on my understanding of colour mixing, I have compared the main types of visual displays used in communication and entertainment devices. I can present information on their relative advantages and disadvantages.
CfE (Communications - Light) (Level Third) - SCN 323U - Having carried out activities on light passing through different materials, I can explain to others some useful applications of lenses and prisms.
CfE (Topical Science) (Level Third) - SCN 332BB - Through research and group discussion, I have contributed to an evaluation of a media item with regard to its scientific content.

CfE (Communications - Systems) (Level Fourth) - SCN 435T Phys - Given a real-life scenario, I can use data to select and justify the use of a suitable material to construct a communication system using fixed landlines.
CfE (Communications - Electromagnetic spectrum) (Level Third) - SCN 324V - I have investigated infrared radiation and microwaves and can discuss the advantages and disadvantages of their use in everyday forms of communication. I can use my knowledge to describe some features of how devices communicate with one another over short distances.
CfE (Communications - Electromagnetic spectrum) (Level Fourth) - SCN 436V Phys - I can apply my knowledge of the electromagnetic spectrum to explain and compare methods of local and global communication and how these have impacted on society.
CfE (Communications - Electromagnetic spectrum) (Level Fourth) - SCN 437V Phys - Through various activities I can describe how infrared and ultraviolet radiation are used in, for example, healthcare.
CfE (Communications - Electromagnetic spectrum) (Level Fourth) - SCN 438V Phys - I have researched potential hazards associated with some types of radiation, for example those used in communication devices. Through this I have developed my awareness of how scientific research can develop our understanding of the benefits and risks of new technology.
CfE (Communications - Sound) (Level Fourth) - SCN 439W Phys - I have recorded and analysed sound signals to show how they can be manipulated and used in sound engineering.
CfE (Topical Science) (Level Fourth) - SCN 443BB ALL - I have researched a new development in science and can show how its current or future application might impact on modern life.
CfE (Topical Science) (Level Fourth) - SCN 444BB ALL - Having selected a scientific theme of topical interest, I can critically analyse the issues, and use relevant information to develop an informed argument.
