Strands & Targets in Guidelines

This is the Target Group Menu for a group of targets from the Science Framework for Planning
Group 13  Electricity
This way for Group 14 (Alt.) - Living on Earth (Animals)

How do we get electricity to work for us?
Big Idea
- How can we meet our energy needs without damaging the environment?

Science - Interactive Guidelines Curriculum for Excellence - draft outcomes
CfE (Energy in the Environment - Electricity) (Level Early) - SCN 006J - I have created a display to show the importance of electricity in our daily lives. I can use this to share my understanding of how to stay safe when using electricity.
CfE (Energy in the Environment - Electricity) (Level Second) - SCN 221J - I can design a circuit which can be used to sort materials into electrical conductors and insulators. I can identify where conductors and insulators are important in everyday applications.
CfE (Energy in the Environment - Electricity) (Level Third) - SCN 312J - I can use fault-finding techniques to detect simple faults in electrical appliances and suggest how these might safely be corrected. Using my practical experience of fuses, circuit breakers and earth wires, I can describe the dangers of electricity for the human body, and can present safety advice for others.
CfE (Topical Science) (Level Second) - SCN 236BB - I can report and comment on a current scientific news item to develop my awareness of topical science.

Energy & Forces    Conversion & Transfer of Energy

This way for development of target C2.x

Static electricity is produced by rubbing certain materials together C2.extra

 Properties & Uses of Energy

This way for development of target EF-A1.4

Identify some of the common dangers associated with the use of electricity EF-A1.4

This way for development of target EF-A1.3

Give examples of everyday appliances that use electricity EF-A1.3

This way for development of target EF-C1.4

Construct simple battery operated electrical circuits, identifying the main components EF-C1.4

This way for development of target EF-C1.5

Classify materials as electrical conductors or insulators and describe how they are related to the safe use of electricity EF-C1.5

CfE (Energy in the Environment - Energy transfer) (Level Second) - SCN 215F - I can demonstrate and describe energy transfers in everyday situations and devices to develop my understanding that energy cannot be created or destroyed.

 Conversion & Transfer of Energy

This way for development of target EF-C2.1

Give examples of energy being converted from one form to another EF-C2.1

This way for development of target EF-C2.2

Describe the energy conversions in the components of an electrical circuit EF-C2.2
Future Learning (progression) -   G19 Energy Sources    G20 Electric Circuits    St. Science: Energy & Its Uses
INT1 Physics: Unit 2 Electricity

CfE (Energy in the Environment - Electricity) (Level Fourth) - SCN 420J Phys - I have participated in experiments to demonstrate the nature of static electricity. I can use my findings to explain common occurrences and industrial applications and how to minimise associated risks.
