Static electricity is produced by rubbing certain materials together |
1 | Discuss situations where they received small electric shocks, e.g. escalators, car doors, pulling a jumper over your head. The source of these shocks was static electricity. |
2 | Ask pupils to rub a balloon on their jumpers and see if it will stick to a wall. Pupils could also look at the effect of the charged balloon on their hair and small pieces of paper. This attraction is evidence that the balloon is charged. This can be verified by trying the same with an uncharged balloon. |
3 | Pupils find out about lightning. |
