Give examples of everyday materials that dissolve in water
Some substances dissolve in water, some do not.

1 Pupils should already know that some things will "disappear" in water. Elicit examples from pupils e.g. salt, sugar. Provide the term "dissolve".
2 Pupils should carry out an investigation to find out about dissolving things in water. Which things will dissolve which will not?
Draw up a table of results, draw conclusions and make a short report.
