2. Use items such as an eraser, wooden pencils, plastic felt pens and toys, wooden rulers, paper, jotters, etc. Worksheet B3 (G) has spaces for the children to draw the object and write the name of the material it is made from. For children who are not yet writing you could supply a photocopy of the names of the materials for the children to stick into the right place using the labels from the display table to help them choose the right label for each.

Make sure that the children can recognise that the plastic used for a felt pen is the same material which is used for a piece of Lego or similar and that the wooden casing of most pencils is the same materials as the wood used to make a desk or chair or bookshelf.

3. A ‘feely’ box can be made using any ordinary cardboard box - preferably one which has dimensions around about 15 to 20 cm high by about 50 cm long and 30 cm wide. Use another cardboard box to make dividers inside to give about 8 compartments. Make a hole leading into each compartment and put items inside each section. If you have time stick a pieces of fabric on the inside of each section to cover the hole like a small curtain.
