Outline the process of digestion
The function of the digestive system is to break down food into a usable form that is taken into the body and used for a variety of purposes.
Unabsorbed materials are then expelled.

1 Using dental mirrors pupils examine different types of teeth.
Ask pupils to describe the different kinds of teeth, where they are found in the mouth and what makes them suitable for their purposes.
2 Review the names and positions of the organs in the digestive system (mouth, gullet, stomach, large and small intestine, rectum and anus) on an outline of the human body.
3 Make labels to simply describe what happens at different parts of the digestive system.
