Explain friction in simple terms Friction is caused by uneven surfaces rubbing together. |
1 | Pupils could be asked to suggest ways of making objects move more easily. Elicit: make surfaces smoother. Investigate smoothing surfaces adding lubricant. Use the term friction as often as possible. |
2 | Investigate on which surfaces objects slide more easily e.g. wood, vinyl and carpet etc. |
3 | Investigate how to reduce friction. |
4 | Find out why we oil bicycle chains, hinges, wheels etc. |
