ES-D2.2

ES-D2.2 Describe the processes that led to the formation of the 3 main types of rock
Igneous rocks are fire formed or volcanic in origin.
Sedimentary rocks have been formed from sediments in water.
Metamorphic rocks are the result of rocks being changed subsequent to formation.

1 Examine samples of sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rock and describe the differences between them.
2 Investigate weathering and sedimentation, e.g. the effect of ice on pumice stone, heating and cooling on a chip of granite.
3 Research the effects of temperature and pressure on the formation of rocks.
