LT-C2.4 Describe broad functions of the main parts of flowering plants
The simple structure of flowering plants.
The root system of a plant is required to take up water & minerals.
Roots also give anchorage to the plants.
The stem allows water & minerals to move up & food to move around.
The leaves make the food.
The flowers allow reproduction.

1 Revise simple structure of a plant. Ask pupils to draw and label a diagram (root, stem, leaves, flower). Red hot pokers
2 Observe a variety of flowering plants looking closely at external features.
Identify roots, stem, leaves, buds and flowers.
3 Observe the movement of coloured water or food colouring through a cut of celery stem.
