ES-D3.2 | Explain how evaporation and filtration can be used in the separation of solids from liquids Soluble solids can be obtained from their dissolved state by evaporation. Insoluble solids can be obtained from a liquid mixture by filtration. |
1 | Discuss examples of water evaporation and produce a table of examples. e.g. puddles drying out after it stops raining. e.g. clothes drying on a line. Investigate : What conditions cause water to evaporate the quickest? |
2 | Given a salt and sand mixture, find a way of getting pure salt and provide explanations based on upon scientific knowledge. |
3 | Using a variety of clear liquids, tap water, salt water, coloured ink, distilled water, predict whether each liquid is pure or whether it has dissolved material in it and devise a test to find out. |
