Materials:

powdered jelly crystals
overhead projector
fan
chalk dust
chalk dusters
Petri dish

Method & Questions:


Discuss the role of pollen in plants - i.e. how it must move between flowers to fertilise the ovules (eggs) of the plant.

 

How does pollen travel from plant to plant?


Discuss wind pollination and insect pollination. Pollen has to be airborne at some point.

 

Place brightly coloured jelly powder in a Petri dish and using the fan blow it across the room.

 

Turn off the lights and using the overhead projector show how chalk dust travels after two chalk dusters are clapped together.
